Lorena’s story

Why We Are Fundraising

On 29th February 2024, my waters broke unexpectedly at 32 weeks and 5 days.

On 5th March 2024, at 33 weeks, Lorena Amor Cornes was born 6 weeks and 4 days early, weighing just 5lb. She was admitted straight into neonatal care, where she began her fight.

At just 5 days old, Lorena became seriously unwell with a severe tummy infection caused by an allergy and required three different antibiotics.

At 12 days old, Lorena developed line sepsis, and the following day she stopped breathing multiple times. She had to be supported by machines, with wires and tubes covering her tiny body. We truly believed we were losing her.

At 14 days old, doctors discovered a heart murmur, but we were given a small glimmer of hope as Lorena began feeding on special milk.

Slowly, Lorena grew stronger. At 26 days old, she came home.

While at home, Lorena remained under the care of the Neonatal Home Hospital Team, and although her progress was slow, we believed she was doing well.

Tragically, at just 70 days old, on 14th May 2024, Lorena passed away suddenly and unexpectedly from SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).

Why We Are Fundraising

We are fundraising in loving memory of Lorena, to create a memorial bench at St Luke’s Church, Mow Cop, and to give back to Royal Stoke Neonatal, whose care and compassion gave us precious time with our beautiful girl.
